Anthony Fairfax

I am a Full Stack Developer for Safeguard Equipment. After graduating from Eastern Washington University, I pushed my programming skills with game development. This skillset was perfect for Safeguard who wanted to push their development from hardware to software and app development.

I went into Computer Science because, like every kid, I wanted to make video games when I grew up. I then realized programming and its logic problems were a perfect fit for me and I fell in love with it. As a developer, I've become fluent in programming with various languages and tools, and am eager to learn and grow my career even further.

Current Employment

Safeguard Equipment: March 2022 - Present

Safeguard as a company is focused on creating life-saving equipment for people who work with electricity, starting with Voltage and Current detectors but moving onto more advanced technology. I am part of a software team of four developers and have a variety of skills under my belt.
My work at Safeguard includes:
● Full-Stack Development ● Asynchronous Code Development
● Sprint-based Development ● UI Conceptual Design
● Wrote each Testing Procedure ● UI Implementation
● QA Testing ● Managing Public Releases
● Heavy Refactoring ● Head of Documentation

Safeguard Equipment Manufacturing App - Finished June 2024

The manufacturing app was designed for in-house testing. As the sole software developer, I worked with one of the hardware developers to streamline device testing as much as possible, going through each functionality test of the Safeguard voltage detector.

Safeguard Equipment Companion App - Released October 2023

The Safeguard App connects to a voltage detector that can detect emergency events, voltage, and current. In an emergency event, the user's location and status is sent to a chat log so their response team can coordinate the best way to assist in the situation.

Projects

3D Text Adventure

This project is inspired by text adventure games from the 1970's and 1980's, where the player uses text prompts to solve challenges. I sought out to modernize the genre, adding a first-person camera, allowing for extra text shortcuts like in the Unix operating system, and including a synonyms library. My primary focus was making it lenient with user mistakes and as flexible as possible. I also used this opportunity to learn how to create my own shaders in the Unity engine.

Rhythm Shooter

This was my first attempt at a large-scale project and the first game I made out of college, combining rhythm and shooter game elements. It features menu elements, combat against a variety of enemies, both controller and keyboard support, and single-system 5 player play.

Password Cracking Video Game

Our security class at EWU allowed us to choose any project for our final exam, so I made a video game where the player uses clues in the environment to crack passwords. My professor was so impressed with the project that I was asked to present it for the Spring 2018 EWU Creative Works Symposium. I accepted her request and presented it that year!

Team Project - Android App for Disability Assistance

Working with a team of four, this app is designed to provide accessibility information at locations for people with disabilities. We presented our app for the EWU Senior Project Showcase and the Disability Studies Symposium, both Spring 2019. In addition to some PHP code and designing the look of the app, my responsibility was both technical and general user documentation.
  • Technical Documentation: I would read each of my teammate's code and break it down to an easily digestible format, occasionally leading code reviews for them to show their thought process.
  • General Documentation: I made a visual flow on how the app is to be used, helping the user know how to access the app with no prior knowledge.
  • Poster Presentation: The poster combined general and technical information, for both a quick understanding of how our app is used and a fun explanation of how it works on a code-level.
